NEW IN 2026:

- on June 1-2, Prof Eugenijus Gefenas was invited to present the paper in the 3rd Open Expert Meeting on the Revision of the Declaration of Taipei on Ethical Considerations regarding Health Database and Biobanks, at Session 4 "Stakeholder Engagement: Inclusive Ethical Decision-Making", in the Vatican City.

The World Medical Association is revising its Declaration of Taipei, a key ethical framework governing the use of health databases and biobanks beyond research. Originally adopted in 2002 and updated in 2016, the Declaration addresses issues of confidentiality, trust, and protection of sensitive health information, recognising that risks often arise from commercial, administrative, or political misuse rather than science itself. This revision process began in April 2025 with the formation of a dedicated workgroup and aims to ensure the Declaration remains relevant amid evolving global challenges.
